Why is a Website Important?

I am constantly surprised by the number of people who ask me, “Why is a Website Important?”  I’m sure my expression is like they have two heads.  How on earth in today’s world could you even ask?  Let’s look at a couple of options.

Old School Newspaper Ads

The print advertising revenue has dropped over 50% since 2006.  The reason for this, of course, is less and less folks are reading the hard copy newspaper.  Digital newspapers are the new thing, thus digital advertising.  The print advertising losses far exceed the digital ad gains.  The ratio is running about 15 print dollars lost to every digital dollar gain.  Okay, so that knocks out newspaper ads.

Digital Newspaper Ads

Well, you could just advertise with the newspapers, digitally.  This is an option, and you could set your limit of advertising cost according to your budget.  So, if you’re a wedding photographer, you could set $50 a month for your ads.  But, the cost monthly of your own website, could compete heavily and with a few more pros.

The scope of advertising is one major difference between print and digital.  The circulationth-60
of newspapers or magazines and time involved puts a limit on the number of customers you reach.  On the other hand, a website can potentially reach millions around the world!

The cost of a single print ad can run over a $100.  The cost of you’re own website domain can run as low as $13.99 a year.  And there are platforms out there available where you can build your website for free and also get free hosting.

Non-Stop Advertising

Your website will work for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  You can have pages and pages of content, with no fluctuation in price.  You can update it daily, weekly, monthly or whenever you want.  You can insert pictures needed to improve the goal of your website.  You can set up where you have comments left on your website.  This feedback can help you improve your product and service.

Social Media

Also, on your website, you can insert social media icons on each page.  This way if someone likes what you have to offer, they can share on whatever social media they are connected with.  This in turn, lets all of their friends see what you have and they can share also.  This could bring more and more traffic to your website which starts the whole cycle again and continues to build your business.  The social media’s you can use are Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Delicious, Digg, MySpace, etc.

So, to me this should be a no-brainer.  Whether you’re a photographer, musician, painter, th-61house rehabber, plumber, a store-front business, lawyer, corporation;  I could go on and on.  Anyone and everyone can benefit from a website.  The cost/coverage ratio is too good. In other words, more bang for the buck!  And especially if I can point you in the direction of least expense.  Mainly $0.

My Recommendation

If you want to increase your profits, bring more traffic to your business, whatever it may be, then you must have a website.  And you need to do it now.  Why put off the potential of bringing in more income?  If you want to build your own website for free and even have hosting for free and all the help you will ever need to get it up and running, then go here to find out more and what you need to do.  There is no way that you won’t be happy with what you will find!

  1. This is so true – I cannot imagine having a business without a website. It is your “internet real estate!” And it is much, MUCH cheaper to start and maintain than a “brick and mortar” store, yet when run successfully, it can build up just as much value!

I know I never read newspapers anymore. I don’t have anything against them, it is just that I am always on the computer and I can find out anything I want from a computer. You are so right – having a website these days is essential. Thanks for sharing! Great article.
