When Are the Best Times to Post on Facebook?

If you have a business of any kind, be it online or storefront, or a business website, advertising is important.  There are many places to advertise but without having to pay.  One of the places that you don’t even have to advertise, but merely make a post about your business and it can boost your traffic is Facebook.  Randomly posting at whatever times you feel may not be enough, however.  When are the best times to post on Facebook?  Let’s look into that and see.

Studies Have Been Done

There have been quite a few studies done by QuickSprout, Fast Company, Huffington Post, etc, on the best times to post on various social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+ and more.  We are just going to deal with Facebook for now.  Unfortunately, there is no perfect answer for this because it depends on your audience, your region, your platform and so on.  But, putting together the data from the studies can give you a guideline to start experimenting with your particular business and see what works best for you.

People get on Facebook at work, at home, from desktops and from mobile.  Starting with the worst time, according to SurePayroll, is before 8:00am and after 8:00pm on weekends.  The very best time to post on Facebook is 3:00 on Wednesday afternoon.

Engagement rates are nearly 20% higher on Thursdays and Fridays and FB use really hits it’s highest on Friday.  From 1:00 to 4:00pm on weekdays seem to get the highest clickthrough rates.  Other optimal times are 12:00 to 1:00pm on Saturday and Sunday.

  1. Hi, thank you for your sharing!
I didn’t know that there are best times to post on Facebook. I always thought that it was okay to post any content at any time. I think I will post my website on Friday to increase my click-through-rate!

  2. Yes, short and sweet! But this information is VERY useful. I never even thought about when is the best time to post; I just posted whenever I felt like it.

  3. Hi Grant,
Interesting article regarding when the best times are to post on Facebook.

Believe it of not I am so new to Facebook and have just got going with it.
Everytime I write a we post I share my links on Facebook, Google+, Twitter and Pinterest.

As my niche is more visual I am finding Pinterest is where I receive most traffic at the moment and the beauty is one post stays in sight on you board all the time without having to repost all the time.

Facebook still baffles me a bit sharing links. Sometimes I’ve had loads of people coming into the website on what I originally thought would be a very slow click through rate whereas other popular subjects like making money have an extremely slow click through rate.

I will have to study the best times to post as you have written here, I may have been sharing my links on the wrong days at the wrong times.

Could I ask: Are these times USA or UK times as I live in the UK ?
This may be beneficial to my posts.

    Thanks again,

    1. These are US times, Simon. And you will want to experiment with the times. It depends on your audience, platform, geographic, etc. These are just starting points for you according to researches. Hope this helps and thanks for stopping by!

  5. Great to know. I have wondered a lot about Facebook. I don’t really know how to act upon my visitors on my Facebook Page.
I don’t know what to publish either. I publish about three articles a week but what about the rest of the time? Do you have any ideas on that?

I have a website where I promote coconut oil and other coconut related products.
    Thanks for sharing your information.

    1. I publish from three times a week to daily. Rarely do on weekends. Always write something interesting to grab your visitors attention on FB so they’ll click on your link. Hope this helps. Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Hi Grant, great post. I have been wondering about timing with regards to facebook posting. I guess like everything else in life and success you juts have to do it. Thanks so much and I look forward to reading more.

    1. Thanks, Andrew! Yes, and they all have good or not so good times. Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Instagram, etc. But it’s always best to experiment because it all depends on your audience, your product, etc. But, these are times that you can start with.
