What Are Positive Affirmations? Do They Work?

I’ve been asked a lot of times about my involvement in positive thinking, manifestation, and affirmations.  I totally love it all!  I have my favorite reads like “The Power of Positive Thinking” and I have my 15-Minute Manifestation audios.  And I start and end my day with affirmations.  Positive affirmations.  What are positive affirmations, you ask?  And do they work?  I truly believe they do and I know they certainly don’t hurt.

Let me tell you my first encounter with all this and I didn’t even realize I was doing it.  I had always wanted to get into real estate.  I always dreamed of having rental properties that paid for themselves and eventually would be a part of my retirement income.

The Process

I would drive down a couple of streets that I had been researching the properties on and pretend I was showing different houses to my friends.  Yes, if you saw me, you would’ve thought I was half looney because I was talking out loud…in the car…by myself.  But, I would pretend these houses were mine.  “Yes”, I’d say, “that house was the first one I bought.  And this next one was the one I bought after that.”  I did this every time I drove down the street which was everyday and sometimes two or three times a day.  I even envisioned my tenants and how well they paid rent on time, they’re children, where they worked, etc.  At the time, it was just a game to me and I didn’t know I was actually doing an extended version of affirmation and manifestation.  It began to feel real to me.

Within six months, I owned two of the houses I had been pretending were mine and within a year and a half, I owned six.  I rehabbed them and eventually had tenants that, yes, paid rent on time, some had children.  I knew where they all worked and even their hobbies.  Everything I had been envisioning the past year or so!  And, I still didn’t realize what I had been doing until I read a couple of years later about positive thinking, manifestation and affirmations.

Since then, I have utilized all I can find about the subject and instigated it into my daily routines.  I feel these exercises I do play a large part of my position in life at this point.  And affirmations, is the easiest and best place to start.

Positive Affirmations

Affirmations are not some kind of secret mumbo jumbo or anything that’s hard to pull off.  Believe me if it was, I couldn’t be doing it!  Positive affirmations is just that.  An affirmation that you can do something, no matter what it is.  And to start mine off, I don’t even have a subject!  In the morning shower, I’ll merely say, “I can do it!” over and over  50 times and then, “I know I can do it!” another fifty.  Then I have my personal list of affirmations to go through, usually as I’m driving to that morning’s destination.  The list is nothing eye opening or mind boggling.  Here’s a few examples:

  1. I am a winner!
  2. I am a closer!
  3. I can make money easy!
  4. I can finish this project!
  5. I never give up!
  6. I am ecstatic with my life!
  7. I will have the perfect day!
  8. I am wealthy!
  9. I am healthy!
  10. I have everything I want!

This is just an overall example.  If I’m working on a project that week, I may change my list to involve that project more.  Or my list may be much longer or may hone in on a subject and be more specific.  The thing is, you focus on all positive and no negative.  And say these affirmations out loud.  And you say them in “present tense” where it makes you feel all these things are already happening or in progress of happening.  Your subconscious doesn’t know the difference between what is real and what isn’t.  So say these as if they’re real and your subconscious will work on helping these come to pass!

Some of this spills over into manifestation, which is very similar and I’ll include blogs later on this subject.

Reach Your Dreams

Why am I putting this on my website about internet success? Because, all of this helps you in accomplishing your goals and dreams.  If you’re trying to build a business on the internet, especially, it’s just you against the world.  There is no one there for moral support.  You don’t have someone backing you up if you make a mistake.  It’s all you, so you need to believe in yourself.   If you don’t believe you can succeed with your business, you can’t.  So, you MUST tell yourself, over and over, how you are going to succeed in the form of affirmations, then these things will manifest.

So, yes, I am a strong believer in affirmations and all of the rest I have mentioned.  And one I haven’t mentioned, that is maybe more important than all, is gratitude.  For more on gratitude, read my blog, “The Importance of Gratefulness”.

I know in my heart it works.  Overall, positive affirmations are just positive phrases which you repeat to yourself which describe how you want to be.  To me, it’s just a form of faith.  If you have faith you can do something, you can.  Even the bible teaches this.  Matthew 17: 20  “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Have faith in what you do, and nothing will be impossible for you!
