What Is The New Rich? How Can You Be One?!

new

This term has been thrown around for a few years already, but, there are many who don’t have a clue as to what it means.  Is it referring to people who have just recently become rich?  Or is it a new measurement of what rich is?  Just what is the new rich?  I’ll try and clear up that question and also show you the best route for you to join the new rich!

The Four Hour Work Week

The first time I heard the term “the new rich” was in Timothy Ferriss’s The Four Hour Work Week.   The idea of it intrigued me.  It was a new way of thinking, a new way of living.  The old idea of working all your life, saving up for when you retire and then enjoying your four-hourretirement was not the thing to do.  The new way was much better and this was the way the new rich were doing it.

Enjoying Retirement Throughout Your Life

The more of the book I read, the more excited I got.  This makes sense, I thought.  The idea’s of the new rich were much better than that of our parents.  The old way was you should work 40 hours a week for someone or a company, scrimp and save your money and once you reached 62 you could finally retire and supposedly enjoy the money you had saved.  Yeah right!  The new rich way was work smarter not harder.  Build your own business in a way that  you weren’t tied down, make good money,  leaving you more time to enjoy life with your family.  In other words, enjoy your retirement throughout your whole life rather than at the end.  What a concept!  I could relate to this.  I watched my Dad work for 35 years, finally retire with a small lump sum and still have to pinch pennies.  Even acquaintances that retired with a good retirement didn’t get to do things they had all planned their whole lives because by the time they retired they had health issues or were just too old to do what they had envisioned in their younger years.

My Life Plan Changed

I made up my mind to rehash my life plan and start enjoying the rewards of my work now. I started looking for ways to make more money while working less.  I looked for ways available to work while I traveled.  I started looking for multiple incomes rather than relying on just one.  This brought me to the point of what you are reading now.  The reason I am telling you about the New Rich.  One of the answers to their success was online marketing.

More Opportunities

travelOnce I started working on an online business, I realized this opened up more opportunities for me.  I could see that once I got it built and set on auto pilot, it would free me up to do more of what I enjoyed;  Travel, play golf and spend more time with my wife.  I could travel and still run my business wherever I went.  Or, if I was taking it easy at home, I could still run my business if I wanted.  Regardless, I could make money and enjoy it at the same time, now while I was able.  I liked the idea of the New Rich.

You Can Do The Same

There is nothing special needed to become one of the New Rich.  Determination, patience and a never give up attitude.  You can do the same.  Wouldn’t you rather fulfill your dreams rather than work for someone else and fulfill theirs.  Think about it.  If you’re 30 years old oldnow, do you really think you will be capable of doing the things you want to do now, when you are 65 years old?  Or what if you don’t retire until 70?  Will there be enough time left to fulfill your dreams? Will they be as enjoyable then as they would be now?  The New Rich is the way to go.

  3. Great post, Grant. I have not read “The 4-Hour Work Week,” but it is definitely on my reading list. It definitely makes sense to enjoy life now rather than wait ’til retirement. Most people have all these grand plans for retirement that never come to pass.

    1. That’s right, Andy! NOW is the time to enjoy your life; while you CAN still enjoy it. And there is just too many opportunities out there to be able to accomplish this to just ignore. No, I AM going to enjoy my life now while I can and everyone else should do the same. It is a new day!

  4. Grant,

It totally makes sense! Who wants to wrk their ass off their whole life, so they can enjoy being old. Enjoy financial freedom now!
    Thanks ,

  5. I love the idea of the ‘New Rich’! What an awesome concept. I think I need to read that book. Also in today’s economy, most people cannot retire as there is no loot in the boot to do it with!! And for many who have children, saving is just not happening as it should.

  6. Hi Grant, I’m a huge fan of Tim Ferriss and 4HWW! I was instantly hooked on the idea of becoming geographically and financially independent. I’m on the path to achieving that, it’s not easy, but it’s fulfilling and I’m getting there! 🙂 thanks Sean
